[1:8]  1 tn Grk “First.” Paul never mentions a second point, so J. B. Phillips translated “I must begin by telling you….”

[6:17]  2 tn Grk “you were slaves of sin but you obeyed.”

[6:17]  3 tn Or “type, form.”

[11:23]  4 tn Grk “Antioch, who when.” The relative pronoun was omitted and a new sentence was begun in the translation at this point to improve the English style, due to the length of the sentence in Greek.

[11:23]  5 tn BDAG 883 s.v. προσμένω 1.a.β has “remain true to the Lord” for προσμένειν (prosmenein) in this verse.

[11:23]  6 tn Grk “with purpose of heart”; BDAG 869 s.v. πρόθεσις 2.a translates this phrase “purpose of heart, i.e. devotion” here.

[21:20]  7 tn Or “glorified.”

[21:20]  8 tn Grk “how many thousands there are among the Jews.”

[21:20]  9 tn Or “are all zealous for the law.” BDAG 427 s.v. ζηλωτής 1.a.β has “of thing…τοῦ νόμου an ardent observer of the law Ac 21:20.”

[21:20]  10 sn That is, the law of Moses. These Jewish Christians had remained close to their Jewish practices after becoming believers (1 Cor 7:18-19; Acts 16:3).
